Of all of the great saints in Scripture, more material is devoted to the life of King David than any other. His life is an open book for all to read and contemplate from beginning to end. He is one of the most celebrated figures in the history of Israel and Christianity even though he was a man of great contrast. He was wholeheartedly devoted to God, yet he committed some of the most serious sins recorded in the Bible. He was a mighty military conqueror, yet he couldn’t conquer himself. And still, David is the only person in the Bible of whom God describes as being, “a man after God’s own heart.” (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22). King David, through it all, leaves us an example of a passionate love of God and points us to the greater King, Jesus Christ. In his story we find our story.
